As we gather with family and friends, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department is encouraging everyone to get tested and vaccinated this holiday season. In addition to daily vaccine opportunities, a Celebrate Safely Testing Event will take place on Dec. 22 and 23 for the community. This event will be held at The Health Department Vaccination Clinic at 1425 E. Battlefield Road (the old Toys R Us) in Springfield from 7am to 12 p.m.
Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling the COVID-19 call center at 417-874-1211. The PCR tests are administered via throat swab and results should be available the same day as testing.
The Health Department strongly encourages individuals who are traveling, hosting, or gathering indoors with those outside their household for the holidays to get tested
to help minimize risk of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the community. After the Thanksgiving holiday, COVID-19 patients admitted into Greene County hospitals increased by 20 percent within 6 days and cases increased. Currently, the 7-day rolling average of new cases is 96, compared to an average of 55 prior to Thanksgiving. Getting tested before gathering with people outside your household helps lower the risk of spreading disease.
Additionally, anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19, has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, or has not been vaccinated, is strongly encouraged to get tested.
In addition to testing, the Health Department continues to encourage individuals to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Accurate test results provide some reassurance to families gathering, but choosing vaccination remains the best way to prevent severe illness and the spread of COVID-19. For vaccination opportunities, visit vaccine417.com or call the COVID-19 call center at 417-874-1211. Those who receive a first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at the Health Department clinic are still eligible for a $50 gift card, while supplies last.
