City seeking feedback for future of downtown Springfield

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Springfield is currently working with the community to develop the Downtown Plan for the Forward SGF Comprehensive Plan. The Downtown Plan will serve as an important guide for land use and development, community facilities, open space and transportation decision making within the downtown Springfield area.

The City invites the public to participate in the planning process by taking the Downtown Survey. The results will be tabulated and documented for use in updating the Downtown Plan and for other community decision-making purposes.

“We are now at a critical point in the planning process where we need the community to weigh in and tell us if they agree and share their priorities for the future of the city, as we take the next steps to draft this Comprehensive Plan,” said Principal Planner Randall Whitman.

This spring, the City will begin soliciting feedback on four subarea studies that will complement other planning elements, as well as provide guidance on corridors and districts with similar characteristics. Visit forwardsgf.com/pages/currentprojects to learn more about each study area and plans for each.

The four subareas under review now are:

  • East Trafficway Subarea
  • West Chestnut Expressway Subarea
  • North Glenstone Avenue Subarea
  • Lake Springfield Subarea.

As the planning process continues to evolve, watch for news releases for updates and additional ways in which you can get involved with Forward SGF.
