FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Two newly elected Springfield City Council members and three reelected members will be sworn in while two outgoing members will take their final actions and exit the dais at the council’s Monday night meeting.
Outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Zone 1 Councilwoman Phyllis Ferguson and General Seat A Councilwoman Jan Fisk will vote on the second-reading and New Business items on the agenda during their last meeting. Neither Fisk nor Ferguson sought reelection in the April 6 election.
Ferguson was appointed to council in 2015 after the previous Zone 1 representative resigned. She was elected to a four-year term in 2017 and served as mayor pro tem. Fisk was appointed to General Seat A in 2012, was elected in 2013 and reelected in 2017.
Newly elected Angela Romine, who will replace Ferguson in Zone 1, and Heather Hardinger, who will replace Fisk as the General Seat A representative, will join reelected Mayor Ken McClure, Zone 4 Councilman Matthew Simpson and General Seat B Councilman Craig Hosmer in the swearing-in ceremony and will be seated on the dais to hear the first-reading bills on the agenda.
Hardinger is the first woman of color to serve on City Council. She most recently served as chair of the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights & Community Relations.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be livestreamed at cityview.springfieldmo.gov/livestream and from the @CityofSGF Facebook page.
