FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springfield Mayor Ken McClure reflected on the past 14 months in Springfield during his annual State of the City Address this morning, thanking the community for its brave, innovative and critical work in the battle against COVID-19.
"It is you, who largely determined our fate," he said. "Your sacrifice, resilience, patience, selflessness, and love for one another is what continues to see us through. It has not been easy. Thank you."
"... Never in my lifetime did I expect to see such impressive displays of service and valiant sacrifices. To those who have lost loved ones forever due to this pandemic, I share your grief. We will never be able to replace those we have lost. But we certainly can continue to take measures to make sure that their deaths were not in vain," he said.
The yearly address, which comprised the June Good Morning Springfield! program hosted by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, was live-streamed from Evangel University’s Robert H. Spence Chapel.
