Mayor issues statement on FDA's announcement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Statement from Mayor Ken McClure:

"Today, the authorization of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration should remove any doubts whatsoever about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. This is a full stamp of approval, following rigorous testing and criteria. I am a strong supporter of vaccination and will continue to advocate for it as the solution to save lives and get our economy fully reopened."

Mayor McClure is optimistic that people will be motivated to get vaccinated when they hear this news and would like to reiterate that:

  • millions of Americans have been safely vaccinated
  • vaccinated people almost never become seriously ill
  • even young, healthy unvaccinated people can become critically ill for months or die from COVID 19 infection

"For those of you who have been waiting to get vaccinated, now is the time."
