Department of Workforce Development Asks for Additional Funding for “Let’s Get To Work” Initiative

The City’s Department of Workforce Development, located at the Missouri Job Center, has received approval from Springfield City Council to apply for an additional $60,000 of  grant funding from Community Foundation of the Ozarks for the Let’s Get to Work initiative. The grant supports workers and job seekers who face transportation barriers that affect their ability to get or maintain gainful employment.

“The Department of Workforce Development received $30,000 from CFO earlier this spring to help meet the transportation needs of the community. Since then we have served more than 30 applicants,” said Workforce Development Director Sally Payne. “Of the roughly 30 recipients, the majority were from Greene County. In addition, applicants were served from Dallas, Polk and Webster counties as well. The majority of requests were for gas cards and auto repairs,” Payne added.

The Let’s Get to Work initiative aims to remove transportation barriers by offering funding for things such as car repairs and maintenance, gas cards and transportation services including bus passes, ride-sharing services and the purchase or repair of bikes. The grant may also be used to assist with vehicle taxes and fees. To apply for transportation assistance, please call the Missouri Job Center at 417-887-4343.
