Register for the 2022 Stop the Violence Conference
Springfield, Mo. – The Stop the Violence Conference is Friday, October 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Missouri State University’s Plaster Student Union. The Stop Violence Conference is a community call to action to provide education and tools that help address interpersonal violence and make our community a safer place for everyone.
This free event, sponsored by Abilities First and the Missouri State University Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, is open to the public. Advance online registration is required. A virtual option is also available.
Continuing education credit will be provided for counselors, social workers, law enforcement, attorneys, and other professionals seeking CEUs, but anyone who would like to learn more about how to end the cycle of interpersonal violence is invited and encouraged to attend.
The first features Kristi Kliewer, inclusion educator with Abilities First, and will focus on building capacity to work with survivors of all abilities.
The second is a panel discussion featuring Lisa Saylor, domestic violence survivor; Cpl. David Hatch, Springfield Police Department; and Tim Stillings, lead navigator with Harmony House at the Family Justice Center. This panel will focus on post-separation abuse, and the additional obstacles and victimizations that survivors face after leaving a violent relationship.
Other sessions feature information on teen dating violence, human trafficking, and an interactive simulation, “In Her Shoes – Economic Justice,” designed to teach participants about the struggles domestic violence survivors face especially in poverty.
More information about the conference and registration information is at noncredit.missouristate.edu.
