Public Safety Registered Apprenticeship Briefing Set for December 1
A Public Safety Registered Apprenticeship Briefing, designed to introduce local cities and counties to the registered apprenticeship model, is set for Thursday, December 1, from 9-11 a.m. at the Missouri Job Center, 2900 East Sunshine in Springfield.
The event will give area first responder agencies, including law enforcement, fire departments, and 911 dispatchers, the chance to learn about setting up a registered apprenticeship program to help create a pipeline of talent committed to careers in public safety.
“The registered apprenticeship model has been widely successful in other sectors and we look to further expand opportunities though our $3 million Apprenticeship Building America grant from the U.S. Department of Labor,” said Ericka Schmeeckle, Interim Director of Workforce Development for the City of Springfield. “While apprenticeships are often thought of in connection with the skilled trades, we are creating apprenticeship pathways for public safety careers emphasizing equal access to all,” Schmeeckle added.
The Apprenticeship Building America grant covers a 10-county region in southern Missouri including Greene, Barry, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Lawrence, Polk, Stone, Taney, and Webster. If your organization would like more information on starting a registered apprenticeship program, you may register for the December 1 event by emailing Maddy at [email protected].
