Fassnight Stormwater Improvement Project Update
March 24, 2021
This week the City's contractor will begin the demolition of the Kings Avenue Bridge and portions of the north/south box culvert beneath Kings Avenue.
Concrete demolition activities will take place using excavation equipment with hydraulic breaker/hammer attachments. The neighborhood can expect to hear repetitious jack hammering noise and gas powered saw cutting during the concrete demolition. These activities are required to follow the City's residential noise ordinance which restricts construction noise to the hours of 7 a.m. to 30 minutes before sunset.
In addition to the Kings Avenue Bridge demolition work, subcontractors will be finalizing installation of temporary groundwater monitoring wells to monitor groundwater levels near the project area during construction. Residents will notice that erosion control practices, including sediment sock and a construction entrance have been installed in the project area. These installations will be temporary but will be in place for the duration of construction. Topsoil will be stockpiled onsite during construction and later reinstalled toward end of construction. As construction progresses to excavation of the channel in the weeks ahead, large amounts of soil will be excavated and transported to an offsite location for disposal.
As always, thank you for your interest and support for this project. Please reach out with any questions or concerns as construction begins.
