All donations benefit Play It Forward SWMO, whose mission is to provide quality musical instruments to music programs and individuals in our community that are most in need. In addition, funds raised are used to repair and refurbish donated instruments. This concert series was designed not only to increase awareness for Play It Forward SWMO’s programs, but to highlight the diverse talents of musicians throughout the area. A new musical guest, scheduled by Play It Forward SWMO’s Director Ruell Chappell, will be featured at each concert.

With generous support from Reliable Superstore, Car-Fi, and Panera Bread, guests of “Music, Art & Bagels” will enjoy complimentary snacks, free Museum parking, a roaring evening of jazz and Dixieland favorites, and can then take advantage of the free First Friday Art Walk Shuttle that will ferry them to Art Walk locations around downtown.

Museum Director Nick Nelson and Award Winner Andrew Casto

4x4 Exhibition Award Winner

Congratulations to Andrew Casto, the winner of the 2016 $3,000 cash award in the Four by Four: Midwest Invitational Exhibition. According to this year’s juror, Kelly Schindler - Associate Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, “Andrew's impressive, sophisticated, and innovative approach to both materials and technique in the new body of work made specifically for the exhibition deem him worthy of the juror’s prize.” Casto represents the state of Kansas in the exhibition and his ceramic sculptures, based on a material study of erosion and geological processes, are truly exquisite.

In addition to Casto's work, 4x4 features incredible contemporary art collections from Sandra Luckett (Arkansas), Anne Austin Pearce (Missouri), and Holly Wilson (Oklahoma). See 4x4 through December 4, 2016. An exhibition catalog is available for purchase for $15 at the Museum's front desk.
