Today is #GivingTuesday, a global day of charitable giving in the spirit of the holiday season. We hope you will consider making an investment in the arts education work of the Springfield Art Museum today!

Every year, we welcome thousands of K-12 public, private, parochial, and home school students to the Springfield Art Museum for customized arts education field trips. Students are challenged and encouraged to make meaning out of the art that they encounter. They observe, discuss, question, and wonder. You may also see students writing, drawing, dancing, creating soundscapes, acting out scenes, or leading their own tours in our galleries.

Arts education develops vitally important skills like:
  • working in groups
  • problem solving
  • critical thinking
  • communication
  • failing and trying again
  • seeing something from another point of view
Through school programs like Placeworks and [email protected], we work with teachers and students over a sustained period of time to broaden and deepen the impact of arts learning beyond what is possible in a single museum visit.

The Art Museum is a fantastic place for families to learn together. In 2016, over 1,000 participants in Family Days and Family Art Workshops explored our exhibits through guided experiences and hands-on art making.

Recognizing the important role that art and sensory experiences play in early childhood brain development, we offered Pre-K open studio sessions for kids ages 3-4 with a caregiver. Hundreds of babies, toddlers, children and adults visited our Family Art Lab  and Book Nook, which offer a myriad of opportunities for open-ended play and discovery any time the Museum is open.

In another effort to meet young artists where they are, we offer regular arts programming at the Fairbanks, a community center serving an under-resourced part of our community. Through the generosity of donors like YOU, all of these programs and resources are free to the communities that we serve.

Your gift, large or small, will allow us to expand the scope and depth of our programs in the coming new year. All contributions are tax deductible and benefit our education programs, serving thousands of children across southwest Missouri. We are grateful to all of our generous supporters!
