All School Exhibition Opens March 3

Every March, the Museum invites student artists from across our community, in kindergarten through twelfth grades, to exhibit outstanding artwork in the All School Exhibition. A celebration of Youth Art Month, this highly anticipated show has been a staple of our exhibition schedule for well over forty years. Please join us for this colorful exhibition that the Springfield News-Leader has described as "what it must be like to be inside a kaleidoscope."

Wood-Fired Kiln Closes March 5

Don't miss the final days of the largest-scale exhibition of sculptural ceramics that the area has seen in over 30 years. Wood-Fired Kiln: A Catalyst for Collaboration features ceramic works from local, national, and international artists. Join us for the final public program of this exhibit, the Wood-Fired Kiln Artist Panel on Saturday, March 4 at 1:30 PM in the Auditorium. This free event features 5 of the 7 represented artists in a conversation about their collaborative work.

Wood-Fired Kiln Artists Featured in Free Ceramics Workshops

Missouri State University's Department of Art + Design and the Museum are pleased to present a series of ceramics workshops featuring artists from the Wood-Fired Kiln: A Catalyst For Collaboration. These workshops will be held at Brick City/Building One located at 327 W. Mill St. in Springfield, MO. The workshops are free and open to the public. Event times are listed below in "Upcoming Events." See the artists at work before Wood-Fired Kiln closes!

Final Pre-K Make Your Mark! Session on March 3

Bring your littlest artist to the Museum for some hands-on fun. This Friday is the final session of Pre-K Make Your Mark! This exploratory, open-studio session is designed for kids ages 3-5 with their caregiver. Sessions are free to attend thanks to a generous grant from the Musgrave Foundation; however, pre-registration in required. Click here for more information or to register today!

Spring Art Classes For All Ages Begin March 28

Register now for Spring Classes at the Springfield Art Museum. Deadline to Enter Watercolor USA is March 6

The Museum is currently seeking submissions for Watercolor USA 2017. The 56th annual juried exhibition of the very best in American watermedia is scheduled for June - August 2017. This exhibition is open to artists from all 50 states and US territories and will be judged by Laurin McCracken, President of the Watercolor USA Honor Society. Approximately $20,000 in cash and Museum purchase awards are available. For full information on entry rules and how to submit art work, please visit our website.

Deadline to Enter Veterans' Views is March 31

The Museum is currently seeking submissions for Veterans' Views, a juried exhibition highlighting photographs taken by members of our nation's armed services and relating to their military experience, scheduled for July - November 2017. This exhibit is organized in collaboration with Drury University and is FREE for veterans to enter. For full information on entry rules and how to submit photos, please visit our website.

Shakespeare's Othello Takes the Stage

Actors Theatre of Missouri, in association with Rice Theatricals and The Dangerous Playground, is proud to present William Shakespeare's Othello, the Moor of Venice, directed by David Rice and assistant directed by Becca Rice. Enjoy this contemporary staging of Shakespeare's classic tragedy in the comfort of the Museum's Auditorium. These performances are free and open to the public. David Bigelow to Deliver Workshop

Friends of the Springfield Art Museum (FOSAM) and Studio 55 Fine Arts Guild are pleased to present a hands-on workshop with artist David Bigelow on how to use drawing to help generate ideas on March 16 at 6:30 PM in the Museum's Community Room. This workshop's goal is to tap into visual thinking and "unblock and unleash your creativity." No drawing skills or training are required. This event is free and open to the public and all materials will be provided. Reservations for this workshop are required. Please email Sandra Letson at [email protected] or call 417-869-7812 to reserve your seat.
