Watercolor USA 2018 Entry Deadline

Deadline to enter: March 6, 2018

This is the final opportunity to enter Watercolor USA 2018. The 57th annual juried exhibition of the very best in contemporary American watermedia is scheduled for June 2 - August 26, 2018. This exhibition is open to artists from all 50 states and U.S. territories and will be judged by Kelly Kane, former Editor-in-Chief of Watercolor Artist magazine, and current Editor of PleinAir Magazine. Approximately $20,000 in cash and possible Museum purchase awards are available. Artists whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional aqueous media are encouraged to enter. Every March, the Museum invites student artists from across our community, in kindergarten through twelfth grades, to exhibit outstanding artwork in the All School Exhibition. A celebration of Youth Art Month, this highly anticipated show is the Museum's longest running exhibition offering. Please join us for this colorful exhibition that the Springfield News-Leader has described as "what it must be like to be inside a kaleidoscope."

The Springfield Art Museum and invites you to Art In Bloom 2018, our newest signature event celebrating fine art and fantastic floral displays. This three-day festival invites floral designers from throughout the region to imaginatively interpret works of art on view in the Museum's galleries and presents them alongside those works for your enrapt enjoyment. Art In Bloom includes prize categories for featured florists, an incredible opening night soiree with a nature-inspired runway show, floral arranging workshops, mixed media painting activities, and more! Proceeds from Art In Bloom events benefit the Museum's Art Acquisition Fund. Save the date for April 27 through the 29 and join us for this one-of-a-kind event inspired by spring!

Free Pre-K Open Studio Sessions continue in 2018 thanks to ongoing generous grant funding from The Jeannette L. Musgrave Foundation. Bring your littlest artist to the Museum for some hands-on fun. This program helps build creativity and school readiness. You and your child can make your mark using a variety of tools and materials in an exploratory open-studio setting. These sessions are designed for kids ages 3-5 with a caregiver. Classes are FREE and open to the public; registration is required.

Tuttle, Wood, Landscapes Close

Closing March 25

Three special exhibitions are closing in March. Richard Tuttle: Lines and Edges, Grant Wood: Lithographs, and The Structured Landscape all close on March 25. This is your last chance to spend some time in our galleries with Tuttle's minimalist abstract works, all 19 of the lithographs that Wood produced during his lifetime, and over 20 watercolor landscapes that feature built environments. These galleries will reopen on April 13 at 5:30 PM for Frolic of the Mind: The Illustrious Life of Rose O'Neill, featuring 150 works from public and private collections across the country.

Art In Our City Rotates

Zone 1 closes March 18; Zone 2 opens March 24


The second six-month rotation of Art In Our City features nine artists from five neighborhoods located in City Council Zone 2. Vivian Boswell, Nancy Dornan, Nadine Ellman, Liz Ford-Coates, Catherine Long, Josh Mitchell, Rae Ann Rockwell, Kimberly Salsman, and Evan Wright all live or create in the Bingham, Delaware, Kingsbury Forest, Oak Grove, and Rountree neighborhoods. These artists’ works range from painting, to low-relief mixed media sculpture, to textiles, and highlight the adage that “Creativity Lives Here.” Their work will show through October 14, when the exhibit will rotate to feature seven new artists from four neighborhoods located in City Council Zone 3.

Mike Buesking To Deliver Workshop

Friends of the Springfield Art Museum (FOSAM) and Studio 55 Fine Arts Guild are pleased to present From Vision to the Visual, an evening with artist Michael Buesking. This ArtTalk examines the sometimes uneasy relationship between Christianity, spirituality, and the visual arts.
