4x4: 2018 Midwest Invitational Exhibition Opens

August 25 - November 18, 2018
Eldredge, Spratlen, & Armstrong Galleries
Opening Reception: August 24, 5:30 PM

The biennial Four by Four: Midwest Invitational Exhibition recognizes and encourages emerging contemporary artists working in all media who reside in the four-state region of Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas.

This exhibit features a body of work by four artists – one from each state. This year's exhibition will include work by Shawn Bitters (Kansas), Jason Cytacki (Oklahoma), Dawn Holder (Arkansas), and Meghan Rowswell (Missouri). A juror of awards is selected on a rotating basis from one of the four states – this year’s juror is Jennifer Scanlan, Curatorial and Exhibitions Director at Oklahoma Contemporary in Oklahoma City. Scanlan is tasked with awarding a $3,000 cash prize to one artist for their body of work.

This year's winner will be announced at the Opening Reception on Friday, August 24 from 5:30 to 7 PM. This event is free and open to the public. A catalog of the exhibition will be available for purchase for $15 in Avant Art.

A wide range of objects from statues, to ceremonial staves, to ornamental roof tiles and shrines have been researched and installed by Museum Registrar Kyle Clymore. Rotating works on and off of view helps keep our displays fresh and relevant. There's always something new to see at YOUR Art Museum!
