90th Anniversary Exhibition Opens

Please join us as we celebrate the Museum’s 90th Anniversary in a big way. Decades: 90 Years of Collecting features 90 incredibly diverse objects – ten per decade – while examining the history, shifting trends, priorities, and variety of our permanent collection. A wide range of objects will be exhibited including paintings, prints, photography, ceramics, textiles, jewelry/metalwork, furniture, historical objects, and many others.
Art lovers will recognize many of the featured artists including: Arakawa, Calder, Frankenthaler, Gilliam, Rembrandt, Tiffany, and many, many more. Patrons will see objects from the cultures of Burma, China, Egypt, India, Japan, Mexico, the Near East, Papua New Guinea; and from the Kuna, Mapuche, Makah Tribe, and Zuni peoples. Don’t miss this incredible exhibition 90 years in the making! Free and open to the public.

Join the revelry at the 2018 99 Times Party benefiting the Museum's Conservation & Preservation Fund. 99x: Cirque Americana will feature 16 living art tableaux presenting modern takes on classic American circus acts and attractions, all to benefit the conservation of works in our collection by noted Regionalist Ben Messick. Tickets begin at $35 and include complimentary drinks, hors d'oeuvres, desserts, musical entertainment by Randall Shreve, and sideshow acts from The Blacklist Variety Show. 4x4 2018 Midwest Invitational Exhibition installation

Public Program: 4x4 Family Day

Join us for a FREE Family Day with activities inspired by the fantastic and imaginative landscapes currently on view in the 4x4: 2018 Midwest Invitational Exhibition. Family Days are designed to help kids and grown-ups explore the Museum’s exhibits together. Family Days feature hands-on activities and art-making opportunities. This drop-in event is free and open to the public. Come out and make a connection to our exhibitions and collection!

Fall Art Classes & Workshops

Register now for 4 and 8 week Fall Art Classes including Beginning Acrylic, Drawing, Pottery, Mixed Media, Beginning & Open Studio Small Metals/Jewelry, Enameling for Small Metals/Jewelry, and Watercolor Painting for Adults. Kids and Teen offerings include Art & Story, Crazy for Clay, Sewing With a Twist, and Pottery. 

The Museum will also be hosting a number of one and two-day workshops this Fall including:

Join Teaching Artist Cory Leick for the first in a series of Mixed Media Meet Ups, Repeating Pattern Illustration. Use your own drawing style, some old-school tricks, and a copy machine to create your own endlessly repeating patterns. Make your own gift-wrap, book covers, wallpaper, the possibilities are endless! This one-night workshop costs $15. Registration is required; materials are provided. Intended for adults, ages 18+

FREE Pre-K Open Studio Sessions resume in Fall 2018 thanks to ongoing generous grant funding from The Jeannette L. Musgrave Foundation. Bring your littlest artist to the Museum for some hands-on fun. This program helps build creativity and school readiness. You and your child can make your mark using a variety of tools and materials in an exploratory open-studio setting. These sessions are designed for kids ages 3-5 with a caregiver. Classes are FREE and open to the public; registration is required

Save the date for a stylish afternoon at the annual SMMA Fall Fashion Show. This year's event, MargaritaDaze, features a tropical theme inspired by the music of Jimmy Buffett. Proceeds benefit SMMA's support of 5th grade field trips to the Museum, Placeworks teaching artist residencies in rural schools, art acquisitions, and more! Plan to put your most fashionable foot forward with SMMA and join their efforts to support and promote art enrichment in southwest Missouri.
