Art In Bloom Wows Record Crowd

Over 1,900 patrons visited the Museum on April 25-28 for the second annual Art In Bloom. This special event featured 28 floral arrangements by floral designers inspired by works of art currently on view in our galleries. Almost 400 patrons joined us for the Art In Bloom Preview Party featuring an unforgettable fashion show produced by Jennifer Vaughn - Sew It All By J & Joseph Pyatt, with additional designs from Kelsey Ball, Briana Miller, Rei Radford, and Liz Victrola. Proceeds from Art In Bloom benefit the Museum's Art Acquisition Fund. We are pleased to announce that Art In Bloom 2019 raised over $24,500! Thank you to all who participating in and supported this one-of-a-kind event inspired by spring.

People's Choice Award Winner

New to Art In Bloom this year, was People's Choice Award voting. Our incredible volunteers sold $953 in People's Choice Award votes to our visiting patrons. Congratulations to Audry McMannis - Schaffitzel's Flowers for winning the first Art In Bloom People's Choice Award for her arrangement inspired by Nick Cave, Soundsuit (2008). Audry wins complimentary tickets to the Springfield Little Theatre's upcoming production of The Secret Garden!

Please join us for the Missouri State University MFA Showcase, highlighting work by students from the Art + Design Department who are pursuing their Master of Fine Arts in Visual Studies. This year’s exhibit serves as the thesis exhibition for four graduating students: Ainura Ashirova Barron, Shen Chen Hsieh, My Que Luu, and Xuehua Jin, who have all previously exhibited in previous MSU MFA Showcase exhibits. The four international students will exhibit primarily two-dimensional works including paintings, prints, watercolors, and collage. This special exhibition only runs through May 26, so plan to see it soon!

Permanent Collection Rotations

Beginning May 7, new works will be on view in Creating An American Identity, the semi-permanent, rotating exhibition of our permanent collection. New works by Moses Soyer, Raymond Kennon, Jacob Lawrence, Pitseolak, Jaune Quick-to-see Smith, Jane Troup, Karsten Creightney, Walton Ford, Luis Jimenez, Renee Stout, Maria Martinez, Gertrud and Otto Natzler, and Lucy Lewis will join the narrative of 18th Century American art to today, installed in the Musgrave Wing of the Museum. Rotating works of art on and off of view helps conserve our artwork - particularly works on paper - and keeps our collection fresh and relevant to our patrons. There's always something new to see at YOUR Art Museum!

Pre-K Project Day
May 3, 10:30 AM - Noon

Project Days are a more structured, focused version of our Open Studios. These classes begin with story time, followed by a guided hands-on project designed to feed a youngster's imagination. Project Days cost $5 per participating child, and all materials are provided. Registration is required. Project days are designed for kids ages 3-5 with a caregiver. 

Pre-K Open Studio Sessions
May 10, 17, 24, 10:30 AM - Noon

Pre-K Open Studio Sessions continue thanks to ongoing generous grant funding from The Jeannette L. Musgrave Foundation. Bring your littlest artist to the Museum on select Friday mornings between 10:30 AM and Noon for some hands-on fun. This program helps build creativity and school readiness by encouraging sensory exploration, discovery, social and emotional awareness, cognitive abilities, and fine motor skill development. These drop-in sessions are designed for kids ages 3-5 with a caregiver. Classes are free and open to the public; however, registration is required.

Summer Art Camps

Summer Art Camps Enrolling Now

Each summer, the Museum’s classrooms and grounds come alive with the energy and excitement of art campers who are exploring the Museum’s exhibits through observation, drawing, creative writing, movement, and other innovative gallery activities. In turn, art campers create their own portfolios of amazing artwork inspired by the works on view, their gallery activities, and the unique theme of each summer camp session.

Nature: June 11 – 14
Magic: June 18 – 21
Journey: July 16 – 19
Story: July 23 – 26
Creatures: July 30 – August 2

Art Camps are designed for kids ages 6 – 10, and 5 year-olds who have completed Kindergarten. All sessions run Tuesday through Friday. Half-day and full-day options are available, and sibling discounts apply.

Can't go to Mexico? Grupo Latinoamericano will bring Mexico to you! Join this cultural celebration complete with live Mexican music by Mariachi Flor de Missouri, folkloric dances performed by Grupo Latinoamericano Dance Troupe, authentic Mexican food, cultural exhibits, and much more. Free and open to the public.
