End of Year Giving identity

Consider a #GivingTuesday Gift to YOUR Art Museum

Tuesday, December 3, All Day

In 2019, the Museum served over 63,000 patrons, 8,500 of whom were children from over 32 local and surrounding rural school districts. We accomplish this without charging a single dollar in admission fees due to the generosity of donors like you! Help us reach even more patrons with a 100% tax-deductible #GivingTuesday End of Year gift to the fund of your choice: Art Acquisition, Collection Preservation, Exhibitions, Education, or our General Fund.

On December 3 only, #GivingTuesday donors who donate at the $25 level (and above) will receive a complimentary 37-page Watercolor USA 2019 color catalog - a complete record of this year's juried exhibition highlighting the very best in contemporary American watermedia - as an expression of our gratitude for supporting the important work that we are doing in our community. Thank you for your consideration of support!

Slowing Viewing Night in Creating an American Identity

Slow Viewing Night: Susi Steinitz Ettinger

Thursday, December 5, 6 PM

Spend one hour with one work of art once a month at our new Slow Viewing Nights. Slow Viewing Nights are a practice of collaborative interpretation. Each month we gather in front of an art piece for an hour and build a collective understanding of the work through sharing our observations, questions, and suggestions. This activity is designed for anyone who wishes to spend more time with art, desires to participate in a curious learning environment, wants to move deeper into understanding all that art has to offer, or simply desires to slow down.

In December, we will focus on Susi Steinitz Ettinger's Stick in Black and White, currently on view in Creating an American Identity. Meet in the Museum Lobby at 5:50 PM. Seating will be provided.

Collection Connection Workshop: Enameling

Saturday, December 14, 10 AM - 12 PM

Join Museum Assistant Brian Fickett for an art-making workshop inspired by Rodo Padilla's sculpture Untitled, currently on view in Creating an American Identity. This workshop will allow students to familiarize themselves with the art of enameling (the ancient art of fusing glass to metal) while exploring color, shape, and pattern. Participants will use glass beads to create patterns on a prepared light switch plate, and fire them in a kiln.

These staff-led workshops inspired by select objects from our permanent collection feature gallery discussion, hands-on artmaking, and experimentation with a variety of processes and materials used by artists. Our outstanding collection of over 10,000 objects belongs to you, the citizens of Springfield! Discover a new treasure each time and let it spark your next great idea, conversation, or creation. These workshops vary in price; all materials are included. Registration is required.
