Birthplace of Route 66 Festival Volunteer Opportunities

    Aug. 11-13, 2022

    We need your help!

The Birthplace of Route 66 Festival is one of Springfield’s premier outdoor festivals, showcasing hundreds of classic cars and trucks, motorcycles and an impressive lineup of free concerts. The 2022 festival takes place Aug. 11 – 13 in downtown Park Central Square.

Running the festival requires a small army of staff and volunteers working to ensure residents and visitors have a fun and safe experience while visiting the Queen City. Organizers are looking for volunteers for a variety of tasks, including:

Golf Cart Shuttle Driver. The footprint of the festival is called the “Motor Mile” for a reason. It is over a mile long. While parking is plentiful, we like to provide courtesy golf cart rides to and from the parking areas on a continuous basis throughout the festival. Drivers can bring a friend! We need friendly faces who are excited about meeting new people and are good drivers.

Timeframe: Thursday evening between the hours of 5 p.m. and midnight; Friday between the hours of noon and midnight and Saturday between the hours of 8 a.m. and midnight.

Parade Sentries. Directing classic cars and trucks to parade staging takes a person with attention to detail and stamina to stand for long periods of time. Parade sentries help direct incoming cars with color-coded dash cards to the proper color-coded staging locations. A bonus is free food at the pre-parade cook outs! Sentries are assigned to College Street between Grant and West Avenue, on both the east and west sides of Kansas Expressway.

Timeframe: Friday afternoon / evening between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m.

Info Tent Workers: The City of Springfield hosts an information tent with maps, guides and other interesting tidbits about the festival and the city. This tent is located on Park Central Square, across from the History Museum on the Square. Come help us capture details on where our guests have travelled from!

Timeframe: Friday between the hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Event Ambassadors: Thousands of people fill the festival footprint each year. We need people on foot who can answer questions, direct guests, proactively ask guests if they need help and serve as a friendly ambassador to ensure a great visitor experience.

Timeframe: Friday between the hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
