Human Resources Director: Sheila Maerz
Sheila Maerz joined the City of Springfield as the Human Resources Director in October, 1998. The Human Resources Department is responsible for employment, classification, salary administration, payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, training and development, labor relations, safety, and workers compensation. Prior to 2013, Human Resources was also responsible for Risk Management as well.
Prior to working for the City of Springfield, Maerz served for nine years as the Personnel/Risk manager for the City of Joplin, Missouri. She also served in similar capacities for the Joplin Workshops, Teledyne and Motorola, Inc.
Her professional affiliations include: Springfield Area Human Resources Association (SAHRA), Society for Human Resource Management Association (SHRM), National Public Employer Labor Relations Association (NPELRA), and International Personnel Management Association (IPMA). She serves on various committees, including the LAGERS Legislative Committee and the Southwest Missouri Employers Health Care Coalition, and served on the SAHRA Board of Directors as Chairperson of the Legislative Committee. She previously served as the President of the Tri-State Personnel Association (TSPA), and the Secretary/Treasurer for the Joplin Area United Way Board of Directors.
Maerz graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts in Personnel Management from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1984. In 1999 she graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Master of Science in Human Resource Development. In recent years, Maerz has obtained Human Resources certification including Professional in Human Resources (PHR), International Personnel Management Association – Certified Professional (IMPA-CP), as well as an Associates in Risk Management (ARM).
Maerz, and husband Steve, have three daughters; Samantha, Jessica and Mary.Close Window
