We are now accepting applications for fall and spring NeighborWoods Projects. To apply or for information on a NeighborWoods Project in your neighborhood please contact Troy Powell at the City of Springfield's Urban Forest Office 417.874.2154.

Purpose Statement

The NeighborWoods program is a partnership between the City, the Springfield Tree City USA Citizens Advisory Committee, City Utilities and recognized neighborhood groups or other non-profit groups for the purpose of enhancing Springfield's community forest. City funds are used for purchasing and planting tax-exempt trees from area nurseries through established City contracts, and then neighborhood volunteers will establish the trees for a minimum of three years.

This approach relies on the citizen to provide care for the tree in the first 3-5 years to ensure better survivability of the tree. The tree planting permit acts as coordination tool between citizens and the City, and as a commitment to achieve the ultimate goal of having a healthy tree in place for the benefit of the entire community.
